just had some bbs wheels fitted- but we had to reuse the existing wheel nuts- is this a problem? Should i be replacing them? The guy said to check that they were still tight after 50 miles- do i really need to have new ones put on?

thanks for your help!

Well, assuming the nuts you have are the right type for the wheels, are in good condition and engage with sufficient thread on the wheel studs then no, replacing them as a matter of course seems absurd and something I've never come across.

I'd check the taper in the wheel where the nut locates is the same on the old wheels. Do the wheels have inserts etc?

thanks for this. I am in favour of keeping the wheels on the car when travelling so you've helped my confidence. There were no inserts or anything, but the wheels themselves needed a very thin little ring on the hub first, which came with them- not a spacer as such. Anyhow, job done. Thanks!

Polynesian, it's used to centre the wheel on the hub.
