hi all.

Ive got a tiger super six (7 type ) running a 2.0 zetec with twin 45's. Un fortunatly today i lost all my oil through my oil filter working loose while out on a thrash. Is there anywhere to free a siezed engine or am i to start looking for a replacment right away?.

thanks

If it is well and truely seized I would look for a new engine, could be lots of unseen damage.

Sorry, about your car.

Bin it. Take the carbs (and any other go faster bits) off and chuck everything else. sorry - I know its not the best news but the block will be toast and if you imagine that not just the pistons but EVERYTHING fed by oil will have suffered, youre looking at a new engine.

Depends whether you value the learning experience more than getting back on the road as cheaply and quickly as possible. Rebuilding will be slow and expensive as practically every part will have to be replaced or remachined, and you'll have lots of stuff to look up, but you'll know all about the insides of the engine by the time you've finished. Replacement will work out a lot cheaper but you miss out on half the fun

Its a hard to choose, i want it back on the road asap as our summers dont last that long. But i am truely skint at the mo. My knowledge of engines is painfully pittfull so i would love to strip it down and rebuild it. I belive my cheapest option is like suggested before to remove all the fruity bits and fit another 2.0 from a ebay mondeo that deserves a new life! I can then strip down the old engine and maybe learn a thing or two in my spare time.

Do any of you out there know of a cheap supplier of engines. Cheap as in well under £500 notes as thats what i can get a whole car for but have the pain in the arse job of removing it form the car!

I need to crawl under it tonight and try and read the engine code before i start making enquires.

If i suddenly coem into some money then i would love to just fit a s13 lump from a 200sx!

thanks

If you go the whole mondeo route, you can 'part out' the rest when you've finished. It's a lot of time and mither, but worth a shot if you've more time than money...

2.0 zetec mondeos are overflowing out of the scrapies now - you shouldn't have any problems picking up an engine for £100 or less. Just make sure it comes out of a lowish milage one thats had a good side or rear shunt, plenty of them about so you can afford to be choosey.
The cheap ebay etc mondeos even if they have rough body work will probably have high milage motors although they do seem to be able to take a fair amount of abuse (I've got a 1999 2.0 mondeo estate which has been well and truly thrashed for 134,000 miles and although the body is starting to rattle and squeek the engine still dosn't use a drop of oil and is still pulling as well as ever)

Options are:

Bodge = fill back up with oil, and tow start engine if your lucky it will start up and the oil will get back round the engine, and except having seriously reduced the life of the lump it will run, if unlucky swarf will run round the engine scrapping the entire lump, and you may spin a bearing or two scrapping rods/block and possibly seize again at high rpm putting a rod through the block (this is only likely to happen in fisrt 10 mins) its rare this works but you may be lucky, might get a few months out of it while you hunt an engine.

Buy a new/old engine and put it in but you dont know its history.

Buy a new/new engine = expensive!!!

Take out engine, remove sump, remove bearing caps, inspect crank, regrind crank and fit new shells provided it hasnt spun a bearing. = cheapish, new bottom end, provided top end is ok engine good for a hundred K ish. BUT DO MAKE SURE ANY SWARF IS REMOVED FROM ENGINE OR IT WILL SELF DESTRUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for info.

I got a call this mornign from universal spares with a 40,000 mile engine that they wanted £200 notes for. I thought this was pretty reasonable given the millage. I ring a load of scrappys today and like you said. i can afford to be choosey.

Might as well order some high lift cams while im at it!

thanks for all your help. its made this sad sad couple of days a little more hopefull!!!
