has anyone seen one of these gizmos?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Electronic-

Im thinking about upping my boos and this would seem to have all the off/on ability of an electronic boost controller but with the cheapness of a mechanical valve.

But do any of you have any knowledge of these things?
rekon it would work?
is there a more reputable uk based co that does them?

TIA

Paolo

It should work, looks ok but it does have a very cheesy switch.
I think you could find something cheaper if you looked around, just a simple 12v solenoid valve with a T-piece and a flow adjuster should do it, just find a better switch to activate it.

Looks gimicky, and I would guess overpriced.

probably - but only by about a tenner if that. it does have the potential to increase any number of horses but im apprehensive firstly because its a guy in japan selling it and secondly because, well, the whole thing looks so naff and cheap. I do like the idea of boost on demand though...

The appeal is obvious but obviously there's more to it than just fooling the waste gate (which is presumably what this device is intended to do). The design of the switch just looks to me as if it is designed to appeal to Max Muppets, presumably it'll be marketted as a 'race spec' switch.

Its a pretty crude way of getting more ponies, but it should work

HOWEVER if the ECU can't add sufficent fuel and retard the spark enough then you'll be looking at a dead engine very quickly. If the engine has a decent anti-knock strategy and you don't run the boost off the end of the pressure correction table in the ECU then it should be OK.

If you don't know either of these then you probably shouldn't be fitting it.

It's just a bleed valve plumbed into a solenoid to provide the on/off feature. Do not confuse this with an electronic boost controller.

ha ha, oh im not - but at the same time im not blind to how easy it is to get a turbo to give more boost! im still in two minds about this, but, also at the forefront of my mind is KITTS thread on this page with very good photos of an MR2 engine that is completely toast. Do I want to be doing that to myself? but then - 14 psi wont hurt it too much will it? more homework needed I think Paolo
