a business pal is considering importing some american cars an then replacing their engines with others that maybe a different shape or somewhat larger.
an so he wondered if it'll be too much hassle or not, in terms of fit-ment an adjustments.

so any advice?

Nothing that can't be done with sufficient time and money. But unless you have done this before and know what is involved, it would be very foolish to take this on as a business venture.

Make sure he gets as much information as possible before even considering it. Every car and engine is different (more-a-less) so you cant generalise.
I am sure people will help here if you have any idea what car/engine combinations he is contemplating.

..Suspension, brakes, gearbox etc will probably all need changing aswell.

What sort of car has an engine bigger than your average V8 yank? The usual approach is putting big yank V8 engines in smaller cars.

No offence meant, but if he has to ask this sort of question I'd guess he may not be in a position to go swapping engines.

well, i dont think that size is an issue, morever has tricky it might get in fitment an dampening etc.

now, he can get a batch of modern ford-v8s [petrol+diesel], an the honda hr-v petrol one + the toyota avensis diesel, an is assuming they'd fit with the necessary bracketing, while the gearbox wouldnt also need to be changed, hopefully.

so how about it guys - feasible for a big garage of a dozen mechanics churing out few cars a week?

Not a chance! there is just no market for ojne of instilations these days, guys/girls seem to be scared off from buying something other than factory, take a race car you can thousands on building one the proper way only to come and sell it for a pitance, factory cars that are tuned one thing, start swapping engines another, you are realing on putting your faith on some mechanic you dont know that has done the conversion? very hard thing to sell.

Yes, feasible, but why? What is the actual objective here? Just to use a different motor, or to gain fuel economy, or power or what? People who buy yank cars usually buy them because they want a big V8 yank engine.

well i was told the objective was to open a niche market in turning modern yank cars into euro+arab sales, via some identity changes so they'd look an feel somewhat different, an also be better overall than if in their original form.

in fact, what some motoring critics might say is - a yank car with decent economy, build quality, an handleing - something i'm told is quite rare from across the pond.

Although give them time and they may perfect it themselves, if the Z06 is anything to go by.

I can't see there'd be any money in this unless you dealing with classics and making them into bespoke hot-rods.

An alternative is to bung US V8s into cars like the Merc C Class Coupe or BMW 1, 2 (when it arrives) or 3 series. That could be serious fun.
