I have a BMW 740 - 1998 . The service indicator lights that I know exist on this car do not light up at all in any ignition position. They seem to be disconnected. Does anyone know how someone could have "pulled the plug " on them and how I can get them working again ?

I don't know but a pure guess...could it be a fuse?

Could be many things, if the software is configured to turned the bulb on at ignition?

Loose or cut wire at the back of the dash, ecu connector or wiring in between?

I have reset the lights using the plug in tool and still nothing. I think its dash out time.

Are they like some of the earlier BMW's eg my e30, where the electroics board is powered by two Ni-Cad AA batteries than need replacing every so often???

i had the same problem with my 540i....

The dash unit itself was faulty, same problem as the missing pixels on the dash.

No worries, on thing the e30 guys do is solder a pair of flying leads in to the board and have the batteries easily accessible just under the dash or steering column cowls.
