Anyone have any good/bad experiences with universal Lambda sensors?

HI, i run my own workshop and whenever i need to replace a lambda sensor i always use the universal type. It is far cheaper and i have never had one fail yet. Basically all you need to know when ordering the sensor is how many wires are in the plug. One thing i can advise however is get the exhaust hot by running the car for quarter of an hour before you try to remove the old sensor. This tends to ease extraction. Also, watch your paws, as obviously burns from hot exhausts hurt!! You shouldn't have to pay more than £30 for a universal type either!
Good luck mate

Thanks - bought and fitted. Unfortunately not cleared the error code. Might need to invest in one for the other Bank (V6).

Do you literally mean replacing the sensor didn't clear the error code, or the error code reappeared afterwards? Normally you would have to clear the error code yourself after fixing the fault.

Yeah - fitted new sensor, reset ( by lifting the -ve battery lead) and engine management light came back on after starting the engine - which is (I assume) the same fault. Anyone happen to know which "bank one" is? Sensor 1 bank 1 was the error code the garage gave me, pointed out the sensor (which I've just changed) and told me £100 for Mitsi for the part plus fitting. I found this universal sensor on ebay for £30.

You didn't say which engine / car it i, but I'd have guessed it was the bank with cylinder #1 in it?

Did you disconect the battery for some time? Leave it disconected for half an hour if not.

If memory serves (which it may not) they run latch type error reporting. Hence you'll need to get the fault code cleared or start/shutdown more times than you did when the sensor was duff.
