I have need to find a company who can manufacture a 5th gear cluster with ratios to my own spec, as with the gearing set as it currently is, i'll have a top speed of around 115@6500rpm, which is obviously a little low.

Can anyone suggest a company that could supply me with a set of two gears that wont cost me an arm and both legs to have made?
I have seen the likes of Quaife and Wyko but i think itll be probably a bit much once they get back to me.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

If you can provide them with a drawing these guys can cut pretty much any sort of gear profile

www.gibbsgears.com/

Chances are you'll need someone ( try Holfeld F1 01908-312-222) to interpet your existing spline down the middle of both gears and get them to make up the blanks to then give to Gibbs ,again you'll get the best result if you can give them a drawing.
Finally the parts will need heat treatment and finish grinding, Holfeld can handle that for you

I can reccommed someone who could handle the whole thing if you like, just give them the gears.

What are you expecting to pay?

Matt

Hi Matt, thanks for your reply.

Pricewise i havent a clue what itd cost, hence my posting.
Basically i just need a couple of 5th gears cutting/making to raise the top end from its very low 117mph to something a bit more respectable....like 150-160....

Changing the final drive is not an option unfortunately....

Bear in mind that that sort of step in Rpm will mean a very big gap in the ratios, I'm presuming that this will be an overdrive for the motorway?

I'm, guessing a bit but I'd say the costs would break down as follows providing you do the design work
blank gear production with new spline from Holfeld about 100 quid / gear
Gibbs gear work ( helical gear cutting) about 50 quid / gear
Heat treatment about 40 quid / gear
Final grind and spline cut another 40 quid/ gear
so 230 quid / gear + vat + delivery......

Bigger wheels might be easier....

Yeah matt its more for motorway stuff as the rest of the box has short rally style ratios which are going to put the engine at 6500 at little over 100mph on the current 5th...not good.
The step may be large but the engine has more than enough torque to pull it up to 150 ish.

So, 230 per gear you think? ....:gulp: Graspschestandcroaks"mywallet"....

Well I could be over-estimating a bit, do the drawing and get it out for quote I suppose
