Apart from the better oil pump, is there any major advantage of having a Serp front end on a RV8?

There will be no A/C or power steering.

Will the "older" SD set up fit onto the later long nose crank?

Is there any problem removing the dizzy from this type of front cover if using coil packs??

Trying to learn to help me gathering parts for my long term build.

i think that you need a spacer on the crank if you use the sd1 set up with the long nose crank.
but all the other bits bolt straight on.

Laterz....

Well, I have a dizzy at the moment on the car, but I also have a later (95) timing cover and a coil pack with the new motor.

Really just trying to work out if its a no brainer to use the later cover , or whether the oil pump benefits arent that great.

I have ditched the distributor when I changed ECU and am running ford coil packs, still working on the cold start bit, but when she's up and running it flys.

Cheers, I am sure I will have loads of questions over the next foreseeable, just got a 4.6 and looking to start a long term build up.

Mongoose, which front cover do you have on yours?
Is it the intermediate, but obviously with the dizzy removed?

Yes its the intermediate Antony, the dizzy is still there at the mo,as i havent got a plug for the hole it will leave yet(should have done this ages ago),but it can be removed without problems. If you have the earlier front cover then you need to retain the dizzy,or at least the drive shaft,as its its connected to the oil pump.

Well, the lump I have brought came with the even later cover, so I could use that it I run the coil packs, however I need to get all the serp brackets, tensioners.
Also I kinda get the impression that there isnt too many aftermarket cams for this config, or am I mistaken?

i didn't think cam choice is a problem?I would speak to Rob(v8Racing)or V8 Developments about this if it were me.

Sounds like your going to have fun then. What size engine are you building? And did you find out about your last question regarding the 'problem' block?I dont know if you already have it or not,but i can really recommend a book called 'how to power tune rover v8 engines' by Des Hammill-isbn 1-903706-17-3.I would have thought you would find it invaluable.

Its just a 4.6, I have that book, its very useful and informative.
I have also spoke to Rob Robertson, I have an awful lot to learn , but I am in no rush and will take my time.(The griffs 4.0 seems to be fine and healthy)
At the moment I am just gathering bits and parts and reading and absorbing.
