trying to make sence of the crank sensor offset settings...

can somebody explain coarse and fine offset please?

for example, the one I have is set to:

Coarse = 0
Fine = 7.1

it's a V6 Ford lump with 36-1 trigger and the CPS is in the std place (ie. 60 degree's BTDC)

what I can't figure out is how you get from 60 degrees to the settings in the MBE??

Is the missing tooth 60 BTDC? On mine which is a custom pulley it's 90degrees BTDC. Does the car start and idle? the corse and fine are only to adjust the timing so it's within 1deg.

What you have to do is let her warm up, then set the map to a nice even deg advace such as 20deg and use a timing light to make sure it's 20deg, you might find it's 21 or 19.5 so you adjust to get it bang on.

AFAIK the fords should be 90deg BTDC

thanks but you have missed the point of what and why I am asking.....

Ford Cosworth V6 had the CPS at 60BTDC. the question is how this related to the settings in the MBE.

From my experiences, they won't know either, lol! Waste of time.

Sounds like you are trying to reference your tdc with ignition timing, correct?

yup, sort off...

I have changed ECU to DTA, and was initially using the IGN map from the MBE as a starting point, however, as I am not convinced that the offset in the MBE is correct for 60 degree's BTDC, then the actual IGN timming numbers are probably wrong (in absolute terms).
