Hi, advice needed on the plastic pipe that runs from the engine to oil pressure guage on my TVR.
What I want to do is completly remove the dash from the car so that I can tidy up the wiring and sort out the heater controls. I want to have all the wires in a block connector. Speedo just clips off the cable, so a feasible plan. The only thing stopping me from doing this is this oil filled pipe. I dont want to arse about with it too much as I could end up with oil all over the interior.

I am wondering oif anything exists that is used in petrol or gas engined model cars/trains/boats. Might have a wander down to the local model shop.

Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

TIA

Perhapps i'm missing something here..I dont understand you dont just disconnect it to remove the dashboard. Oil wont squirt out of it.

If you keep the pipe upright pretty much no oil will come out (unless you start the engine). Plug the pipe with the gauge once you have got the dash out.

I see what you mean. The thing is, it is on the guage pretty tight. i am worried that if I put it on and off a few times it will loosen and once a bit of pressure gets into the pipe might "pop" off mid journey; leading to oil everywhere followed by me crashing (paranoid me?!) I am planning on a fair bit of behind dash wiring work so want a quick release solution.

Is it plastic pipe to a steel threaded coupling? My Esprit was like that. The pipe split when it got bent too sharply. Couldn't reattach it for the life of me.
In the end I fixed it by using a gauge extension kit from Vehicle Wiring Products; soldered the kit fittings to the microbore copper pipe, ran through car, cut to length, soldered other end.
About £8 IIRC.

it's push fit at the guage end, not sure about other end (will check)

If this is what you mean? If it fits...
