I have a very expensive Ti exhaust system, and I think the centre resonator has been damaged in some way as it is making noises it shouldn't be and rattling a lot.

Does anyone know anywhere that can weld titanium? I understand it is very tricky to do.

(not sure if I posted in the correct forum, wasn't really sure what exhaust question should fall under, or if welding titanium would be better in Bodywork!!)

Has to be welded in an inert atmosphere iirc with both sides being shielded by gas.

Have a look for specialist welding services or some suchlike.

Thanks Delta, I was wondering if anyone might have experience of it here, or can recommend somewhere.

I am in the Watford Area.

Anyone who can weld stainless PROPERLY should be able to do Ti with the right Tig system. Suggest find a handy mobile milking system engineer, quick check in yellow pages should find you one.

yes, as far as i'm aware you can tig it. Probably needs a particular tungsten.

Do a google for Force Racing, Carl Austin is Mr Titanium. From what I remember, titanium burns in nitrogen!! Which sets it apart from most metals. I think it is quite a pain to do as the usually thin sections and high Mp can cause entertainment. Anyway, Carl will do it and do it well.

I'm just looking up some stuff on this now, following up on the replies.

Jamie, these guys, is this the right website? www.arckinetics.net I don't see any contact info on there, and do you know if they actually provide welding services, or just equipment?
Cheers!

Are you really sure you have a titanium system ?

Are you sure it's not just a TI brand name ..

The sparks when grounding it would be superb though

Here's a couple of pics:

The Tips:

The Exhaust:

Here is a pic of the whole exhaust:

And the whole exhaust on car:

It is the square box behind that cross beam that has baffles inside which is rattling to buggery! (I now have the exhaust off the car, and when i shake it I can hear something rattling inside) The fix is either open the resonator and remove the rattling baffle, re-seal; or remove resonator and replace with straight pipe (SS or Ti)

Have found the new UK distributor for Amuse, and he has offered to take it back and get someone to have a look at it

Just a thought.
Could the rattling be a knackered cat with the broken bits working their way into the "silencer" box in the exhaust system? If so upending the system and shaking till it goes quiet might help.

When I've had baffles rust in a system it didn't rattle. That's not to say it can't happen just not happened to me. Now when my cat died it rattled like buggery and if left for long enough would have broken up into small enough bits to migrated down the system.

No it isnt the cat, car is de-catted. This is a cat back exhaust. It is definitely the resonator in that box, It's happened to others with the same exhaust in the USA, but on supercharged cars, mine is NA. Anyway it is now with TomSwann at Briston Performance who is the Amuse distributor in the UK, and we'll see what happens
