Best/Favourite Method of Fueling and Sparking a RV8?
Discussion
Just out of idle curiosity, whats everyones favourite way to get petrol, air and a spark to the RV8 engine. A few that I can think of off the top of my head are...
Air/Fuel
Weber 500 or similar carb
Traditional plenum chamber Fuel injection eg Flapper thru to GEMS
Weber/Dellorto throttle bodies
Spark
Flapper fuel injection
Hotwire
GEMS/Sagem
Bosch/Thor
Aftermarket ECU
Dizzy
etc etc
If you had a blank sheet of paper to spec your induction/ignition/fuel what would be on the list?

Take a browse through my Rover V8 inlet manifold archive. Two recent additions towards the end are a throttle body conversion (going into a Capri) and a chevy looking manifold.

If starting from scratch, I can see no reason to limit yourself with a factory Rover based ecu in any shape or form.
An aftermarket ecu would be best.
I had used a DTA )8pro, which might be pricier than some, but it worked great for me.
Some are using Emerald, some Megasquirt etc.
For a while I did retain a single coil/dizzy setup, eventually swapping to 8 individual coils for a coil per plug setup.

oooooOOOoooo
Very nice, but do they work? I'm looking at a twin throttle body setup on the thor manifold (removing the front part of the casting).
What are the bike throttles like? anyone any experience, presumably very good top end power but the lack of inlet tract length and a plenum hampers bottom end torque (kinda the opposite of a Thor manifold?
Any idea where Lanocha Racing are based over in the states?

Who's knows if they work. I certainly wouldn't take it for granted that they do. Ive looked at the throttle body on the thor manifold, not much use for a high revving engine. The throttle body conversion is a work in progress, car not built yet. Similar story on the siamesed plenum.I was kicking around the idea of making a sheet metal ally plenum for the existing trumpet base last night.
If you or anyone else does a successful conversion let me know, so I can keep the page up to date.
Ok cheers. There's so much smoke and mirrors about I thought I'd canvass opinion on various options (or add to the smoke)
BTW On the webpage the siamesed plenum without the ribs on the top (I think) is a pair of US spec SD1 plenums cut and welded together. I'll try and confirm this.

When Rob had my 5.5 on his engine dyno he took the top off the ACT triple plenium when the engine was flat out and it only picked up 4 BHP,so ineffect was running throttle bodies so I don't think its worth it.
4bhp at what point ?
How did the complete graph compare for both power and torque. Throttle rsponse is supposed to be much improved with TB's too
A single number is totally meaningless.
That said, as much as they look nice, Ive never felt the urge to use TB's

Yes they look very nice, and there is a lot of "oh they're nice" but when I'm out on track or the road, I'm not going to see them becasue there is a bonnet in the way! How well do they perform? Are there any before and after dyno graphs for example?

I'm running an Omex 710 for the fuel and spark, and using Rangerover/Landrover P38 coil packs rather than the dizzy. The AFM is not used either. All works fabulously for me,and the p38 coils are very neat behind the plenum, being designed to go there.
If i had my time again i would use the MS instead of the Omex though, much less expensive and still can do all i will ever need.

That's the same photo's as mine. Gavin sent them to me the other day for the archive.
