I dont think there's much odds between the 2.
The LS1/6 has extremely thin liners, whereas I think the LS2's have thicker ones. Overall block may be stronger, but unless you intend pushing 8/900+ I dont think its an issue to worry about.
It seems to be easier to take the LS2 to a 4" bore than it is an LS1/6, which would be a big advantage if you want extra capacity.

take a look on LS1-tech.com. some really good advise and info!
a engine shop recently took apart a LS7. they also had a LS2 in their shop. they said that apart from the thinner (and weaker!!!!!) liners of the 7,the two blocks looked identical!!!!!
as for strength og the block, i dont think you will have any problems! i have only heard good stuff about the LS2. APS is pushing over 650bhp from a bone stock engine (not even opened yet!!!). and if you want big power, then W2W can build you a forged short ot long block that can handle upto 1250bhp!!!
personal i think for road use the is little diffrence between the two! the LS2 is a little more pricy, but you can get similar power from the LS1 with a cam and some headers!
thanks Chris.
PS, builder how much is one of your 427 ci LS1 short blocks?????
EDIT: here is the link about the LS2 and 7: www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446435
