Ridiculous Mazda MX5 question

Everyones telling me how good the Mazda MX5 is for B road hoonacey and I honestly believe them, even though its only a 1.8

My question is:

Would it be possible to shoehorn a bigger/different/more powerfull engine under the bonnet of the little MX5 without making a complete hash of it?

I like the look of the MX5 and might do a project with one in the next couple of years dependant on the results of this question!!!!

Lots & lots of turbo supercharger ones out there, 200-300 bhp is fairly common. HKS, Flyin Miata & Greddy all do bolt on kits

Heaps of fun.


I've been looking into an LS1 conversion on mine as I'm now bored of 200bhp of turbo power.
