My Laguna II 2.2DCi 52 reg is making a noise around left hand corners and mostly in fifth and sixth gears.

Now the garage reckons its the gearbox (oh joy £1000 at least), but why would it only do it in the top 2 gears and left hand corners?!?!?

I am trying to establish the absolute cause before I have to splash out! Was gonna buy my misses an engagement ring - have to wait...again!

thanks
Paul

What sort of noise? Could be gear linkage fouling something?

Gear linkage is cable so more likely to cause a vibration 5th & 6th in these boxes are on a seperate shaft so quite possible to be the cause

kind of rubbing noise round left handers - like when you brake with no brake pads left!

The 5th/6th noise is more of a low whine....it also chirps this sound once gear changed (any gear) and drive is taken up again.

Comman fault with the Renault range of gearboxes.

The manufacter's (Built elsewhere for Renault) have not hardened the drive shaft and gearbox tripod joint correctly.

Gearbox and Nearside drive shaft need to be replaced,

Get it checked and Speak to your local Renault dealer it should be under Warranty,

They will need to put a claim to Renault for it

Oh joy its out of warranty....

Does sound like the offside rather than nearside though!

Heap of cr4p is costing too much for a 3 year old car. I've emailed renault to see if they will share costs!
thanks

I have done them out of warranty without any cost to the owner,
(I Worked for a Renault dealership on the south coast)

You should really talk to your local dealer,

A personal Email from yourself to Renault not have much effect.
