Quick question.
Has any one heard of ptfe inlet manifold gasgets, about 5mm thick, ptfe is a good insulator and therefore stops the inlet manifold heating up from contact from the block. The result being colder air getting sucked into the engine...
Does this work?
Has anyone heard of this before?

Cheers Ant

I tried PTFE sheet for a valley gasket liner and it was hopeless, a PITA to work with and even when it is clamped up it tends to move around a lot. Phenolic sheet is far better for that application.

Where can you get this Phenolic sheeting Peter, tried to make a plenum spacer a little while back with 10mm nylon which increased the volume of the plenum nicely, but it lost power , which I think was the air blowing across the top of the trumpets. Might try the phenolic as an insulator only this time if its thinner and easier to work with .

Yes, where can you get Phenolic sheet from - I want to redo my spacer too. (currently using 1" plastic, but melts slowly over time)

I get mine from a local plastics stockist in Northampton who supply all sorts of plastic cut to size in various grades and thicknesses. I expect you'll find something similar local to you.

If you're fitting a thermal barrier, you only need a couple of mil thickness - more than that doesn't really make much difference. It's worth putting insulating washers under the bolt heads too if you're serious about it, heat transfer is roughly proportional to clamping load and you get a surprising amount of heat conducted down the bolts.
