The General Lee MkIII's going to get a bit quicker! I've got hold of a manual 94 Thunderbird SC to donate to the cortina.

Has anyone any experience with this engine? US tuners seem to make big gains just with intake and exhaust liberating. Grateful for any insight.

You probably need to talk with Jeff Dunne at Ford Racing Performance Parts, (used to be called Ford SVO) in Mt Clemens, Michigan. I can try to chase down a phone number if it helps, but may take a while.

3.8 is a 5.0 with two cylinders missing; 90 degree engine, quite wide. I got a 4.0 from Jeff, set up with hi-lift roller rockers, reprofiled Mass Air Metre, etc. It is the Cologne block, and is a 60 degree vee, so is narrower. Before about 96-97, all of these were pushrod, then they went to SOHC (as used here in UK-spec Explorer). More hp stock, but wider and heavier.

First thing you want to do with any US engine is raise the compression - UK petrol is much higher octane... And Tesco's haven't got up here with their99 octane stuff either. Saving it for the southerners, I suppose.

Thanks - both useful. Due to start stripping the two door cortina shortly, the T'bird will start to donate bits at the end of April. The rear suspension will be a cut out and a custom build to encorporate the T'Bird's LSD, can't wait to get started.
