I'm putting a set of these on my car and wondered if anyone on here knows how to control the second set of butterflies which have the solenoid attached. Need to know what sort of signal the solenoid is expecting and a rough idea of what openings to try at each load/rpm setpoint, the spring on them gives a "rest" position of about 75% closed. I'm thinking it can be used to keep air velocity up at low rpm/high load by being partially closed and opening out to fully open as rpm's rise. Anyone tried this or can point me at sites/forums where it's discussed.

Thanks

You can just remove them. We put some on a 2L zetec, with them removed:

The owner did have it dyno'd, but he's on holiday at the moment. Did loose a bit of low end torque, but more revvy at the other end.

What filters and trumpets ?

I'm not sure TBH, ive got a feeling he's still left them open something about creating a plenum for his supercharger project or something...

Every install I have seen has ditched them, that's certainly what I'm doing for my 20XE setup. Just another variable to worry about whilst setting them up, as if it wasn't already a big enough PITA.

I will only increase the air velocity in the area either side of the butterfly, as soon as the cross section opens up the velocity will fall again. The only use I can think that they may be worthwhile for is traction control.

Eliot, what did you fill the holes with after removing the second butterflies? I was thinking about some sort of epoxy or maybe a JBWeld type product??

Yes, JB Weld or similar - it's not on the vacuum side -so your'e only keeping the dirt out.

Hi,

The throttle bodies are fitted to my car.

Firstly, as you can see from the pics the secondary butterflies were removed. As of yet, they have not been closed as they are not on the vacuum side.
But JB weld would be good for filling them in.

Air Filters Trumpets - I have the rubber trumpets on at the moment, which are out of the GSXR1000 Air filter box.
I was planning on squeezing an air filter in, but as you can see space is tight and im a bit lazy like that!

After the installation, I found that the car revved a lot more, and was more happy for it. On a power run, it made 130BHP with the spark stuck at 10Degrees. I estimate its hitting around 160BHP and im finding my clutch cannot handle it! There are no other mods to the car.

Its definitely a worthwhile conversion and with getting the bits off ebay etc, I think it cost me around £350.

You can find a lot more details on both the Megasquirt install and TB conversion here:-

Thanks to Eliot for a help with the install!

In the middle of making the manifold now. Cut down the existing intake manifold and need to start cleaning it up, closing the old injector holes (as I'm using the suzuki injectors) and filling the holes in the ITB's where the second butterflies were.
Progress so far
http://forum.miata.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmenti
going to fit the stock car's fpr to the suzuki fuel rail and tap both ends making dual feed. Need to get the manifold runners as round as poss next and clean up all the external castings - Mazda B6 engine BTW.

The zetec ports are oval too. I made the transition from round to oval on the ally adapters you see in the photos, plus a bit of blending with the die grinder.

I just squashed them in the vice.
