Hello Ph's

I have a mk2 vw golf 1.8 16v GTI I only use it on the track and I want to spice it up a bit.

Up to now it is strippeed out and caged up with nothing else done to it. Project for next year, prior to the track day season starting, will be brakes and suspension.

However if I am gona spice up the power I dont want to waste time n money ejaculating early so to speak.

I anyone out there can give me any advice on what would be the best way to go power unit wise a would be really greatful.

I dont want to have to spend hours and hundreds reshaping the engine bay and running gear. I have tried club gti but they must all be on holiday cause no one is replying.

I hope to up the HP by 20-30 I dont really want to go VR. Too much work. There must be something out there that just drops in and does the job.

There must be a piston header that has the answers. C'mon give up the info. you could be the reason this project happens.

Regards Pootles ( team fire monkey)

Email iguana for details of his car. There was an article in PPC about fitting a 2.0 turbo engine a couple of moths ago. The story was on the cover but mistakenly says mk1 conversion or something like that. If you want I can find the article and let you know which issue you'd need to order if you can't figure it out from the website.

Nitrous injection?

Simple, cheap and easy...

Just can get quite expensive if you use a lot of it...

PPC article references a 1.8 20v conversion. not 2.0

Sounds like a 2.0 16v conversion with decent breathing is what you need. There's a long thread on these conversins stickied at the top of the engines forum on CGTI.

I have been tracking and sprinting a MkII 16v now for a while. Done a lot of mods to the car, too many to list.

I took advice from the owner of Balance Motorsport as to what I should change (car was std when I bought it). To say he knows his stuff is an understatement. Give them a call 0845 226 3717 and he'll talk through the options. He will also arrange the purchase of the correct items for you for no extra cost and offers a fitting service too. Cornerweighting and camber / toe adjustment etc is a speciality of theirs.

Good luck.
