Buy the appropriate Haynes manual and follow the instructions in that.

Most difficult thing about setting the valve clearances on the Cologne V6 is all that bloody fuel injection gubbins being in the sodding way...

Checked mine a couple of weeks ago. Job took a couple of hours & was a bit awkward but nothing too bad.

You don't need to remove the plenum or anything like that - just move the alternator out of the way. It's a bit of a squeeze getting the rocker covers off but they do come with a bit of imagination.

Clearances are in the Haynes manual or Steve Heath's 'Bible' (I think!) - both are in the garage so I can't get to them at the moment. Will try tomorrow

Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys. I have the clearances and Steve Smiths book, but what do I look for as I rotate the crank? Oh, and by the way, which way does the engine turn when viewed from the front? (I can't run mine at the moment!)

is it a 2.8 or a 2.9?
0.35mm inlet 0.40 exhaust
as the clearances are the same but the valve placings are different.
and you turn the front pully clockwise.
oh and the cologne engine is crap in any form except the 24v version, then its nearly ok

Not really worth bothering with the clearances then as the engine is crap!

weren't there sone cologne engines with hydraulic tappets, but which still have the same rocker arm adjusters to set the preload on the follower? .. might be worthy checking you'er not adjusting a hydraulic version .. seem to remember some 2.9s are like that?

Not so fast.... Not all of them and in fact not many of them either. Been researching this and found out that most S3C engines have solid lifters.... Still researching but and this is a big but the majority of S3Cs have solid lifters and only the early one have hydraulic lifters. Moral is check for doing anything except that you can't tell as the tappet adjustment mechnaism is used as the preload.
