I am looking for a suitable timing wheel to fit the front of my Small Block Chevy V8. I require a 36-1 tooth format compatible with a VR type sensor for use with fuel injection. Does anyone know of a suitable off-the-shelf part that would fit?

See this months Performance car magazine, they are doing a feature on home built fuel injection and are using a Ford granada part, the feature mentioned the part number and I don't think it was particularly expensive.

Alternativly buy a pulley of the correct diameter from your local belt and pulley supplier and then turn it down

Yep, picked up a copy of that mag this morning, very good. But I think the pulley is too small (160mm dia), it would have to sit right at the front of my crank, past the damper and 2 belt pulley (which may be ok, the sensor bracket will be quite long though!). Also it has to be made of steel to work with a VR sensor.

John Eales sells toothed wheels and the corresponding MVR sensors for the RV8. If you're lucky it may be possible to attach the toothed wheel to your front pully. I guess you would have to fabricate a mounting bracket. I can confirm that it is quite easy to make up a manky DIY bracket, but you'll probably do a better job than I did!

Some oldish Fords, most ecu retailers ( DTA for example ), or indeed on ebay you can find various trigger wheels.

Quite a few manufacturers used the 36-1 on their engines. Perhaps you could find something in a brakers yard, as some of the Megasquirt users have done.

There's a PHer who posts in the kit car forum whose name I can't remember but has a megasquirt injected small block Chevy in his Dakar. He might be able to help, so worth doing a search on Dakar in the kit car forum.

I remember he posted following the Donington show saying he failed to turn up as planned due to too much beer, so there's another lead.

Not got a 36-1 wheel on it YET, although that is an upcoming project. Fellow megasquirter Chris Good sells a variety of types on ebay. search "trigger wheel" or seller id javos-g2

Ah, this is no longer the case you can now get inductive pickups that work with almost any metal but they do need a power supply and are about 30 quid apiece, check out the RS website although steel does still work best

Don't those active sensors produce a 5v DC square wave signal rather than the AC 0v crossing of a standard VR sensor. I want to use the Ford EDIS system so will try and stick with the same sensor just to be safe. Do the sensors you mention really work with non-ferris metals?
