O-rings in PAS?

I need to re-fit the copper pipes to a TVR Chimeara steering rack.

My question is - are o-rings required with the flare nuts or does the join rely on the compression of the flared end of the copper pipe to seal the join.

No o-rings were supplied with the re-con rack or with the pipes and I can't remember seeing any on the old rack.
I have tightened the flare nuts but the joins are still leaking and I don't want to risk stripping the threads.

If its a taper/flare seal, then there are no o-rings with anything Ive ever seen.

try wrapping a little ptfe plumbing tape around the threads first
