I've been wrangling with my choice of engine oil for my (heavily tuned) golf now for a while. For the winter I have plumped for a Millers Oils 10W60. This has a heavier viscosity in high temps and still relatively thin at 0 degrees C.

I have used Mobil 1 15W 50 up until now but thought the engine might benefit from the oil being a bit thinner when cold. I aslo figured the 60 viscosity at 100 degress would mean my oil maintained in thickness when reaching temps of almost 130 on track days.

Thought I'd start a discussion, cos its interesting stuff, about the pros and cons of different viscosities. What do you fellas think of my choices so far? What do you use currently?

Hi i am no expert on oils but i am sure a few will come along soon!! but i cant see any reason to go upto a 60 weight you could end up causing more problems for yourself, there are some very good ester based oils on the market now, i must admit a few years ago the only way we could get the oilpressure to maintain itself in the rover engine was to use 60 weight but we now run 10/40 royal purple and it is spot on! bloody expensive but very good, i assume you have a good oil cooler on the car
