My car failed it's MOT on high emissions. Garage think it's the carbs fault (twin 40 Dellorto's).
Spoke to local rolling road about having them set up, and he said he is having real trouble finding jets and suchlike for them - is this the case?
I will be going to the RR anyway, just to see if he can mess about with them a bit just to get them past emissions, and not necessarily get them jetted perfectly.

Basically if that doesnt work I have two alternatives, but not sure how viable they are.

1. Buy new (or genuinely good 2nd hand ones) Weber 40s/45 for £500 or whatever, then get them set up properly.

2. Stick a 38DGAS on, which also will need jetting to pass MOT. I do have one in the garage.

I want to do #2, as it is the cheaper option. Problem is my dizzy is a non-vac unit for twin 40's. Will I be able to run this with my 38DGAS, or do I need to revert back to my old shitty points vacuum dizzy? Really dont want to change if i can get away with it, as it messes with the timing and all sorts.

If I do put the 38DGAS on, I will probably leave it like that for the winter and then think about injection (maybe bike TB's) next year.

Engine spec is as follow.

2.0 Pinto
Fast Road (Kent FR22) cam
Stage 2 unleaded head
Vernier Pulley
Electronic Dizzy + coil module with advance curve for my engine spec.
I dont want to change the engine btw, I know it's not the best but I really like the way it pulls!

Any help/advice would be welcome.

Cheers, Greg.

I'd suggest you find a different rolling road. Weber parts are easier to find, but there's no reason Dellorto parts can't also be sourced. One of my Tiger owning friends has a 2lt Pinto on twin Dellortos and had no problems at our local rolling road in Devon.

(And if you just want to get past the MOT emmissions, screw the idle mixtures in as much as you can get away with)

Thanks for the reply KITT, unfortunately I am trying to do this relatively cheaply. One of my 'local' rolling roads has let me down already, and going to try the only other local one in a couple of weeks. I dont want to be travelling miles to another RR, potentially wasting my time+money.

Lets just say for the time being that my Dellorto's are knackered..

What would people do? Can I used this non-vac carb with my DGAS?

Apologies for the slight change..

Cheers, Greg.

I would check that the rolling road has a stock of jets in for Dellorto's, if not go else where, it seems a shame to take them off if only the mixtures are wrong.

A little trick on the MOT is to advance the timing, it helps the emissions, I've done it on my 1700 Kent running twin Weber 40 downdraughts.

Try www.carburettorspecialists.com or Burton Power etc. You may even find that Weber could source your parts through their Webcon network. Also try the Robin Hood owners site.

Thanks for the replies guys - seems you think I should stick with the 40's, which I think I will do.

I think going for throttle bodies will be my next 'future' project, which I will no doubt mess up a few times.

Cheers, Greg.
