Hi Guys have a slight problem,
I have just fitted some new downpipes to my FTO which are prototypes, and not been tested much before.
I'm getting a ticking noise, not all the time, but under load and high revs.
i've a new exhaust and this does not leak ( i have a pit and can see underneathe)
I have a de-cat again no leak, a existing manifolds...
The Gaskets on the D/P's don't appear to be leaking, (500 miles done no trace of carbon) yet im still getting the ticking....
However texisting d/p's which i have taken off have a 5mm lip that stands proud of the d/p's flange and fits into the recess into the manifolds....
the new ones don't.
Could this be causing the ticking????

Cheers for any help

Matt

Where is the noise coming from exactly?

Get a metal bar and place it to various parts of the engine/zorst. Apply the other end to your ear and see where it's loudest.

That'll help you localise the fault...

defo from the bulkhead which indicates the D/P / manifold junction....

Could it be swinging under load/rev and hitting something? Check the clearances and the brackets...

Heat expansion? If it's a snug fit the expansion + any movement from the rear pipes on their hangers could possibly cause this.

If this is a tubular manifold you may have a crack or failed weld at the junction of the pipes. Could be difficult to find as it will be down between the pipes where they join or enter the collector.
