I've been perusing some Hemi websites on the net in my spare time and not being familiar with the terminology I don't understand the carb terms.

So what is the difference between having one quad barrelled carb and two dual barrelled carbs.

When it comes to it what is a barrel in relation to a carb.

the only carbs I'm used to are the ones that I used to have on my Honda RVF 400. These were one per cylinder as far as I know but I could be completely wrong.

Can anyone explain.

A “barrel” is just another way of describing a venturi in the carburetor. Typically engines actually have several venturi tubes (This explains why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburetor) that feed from the same float chamber (Note: Americans sometimes call this a bowl). So a quad barrel just means it has 4 venturi tubes and dual barrel means that it has two.

To add to speedy's excellent description I would add that with on four (quad) barrel carb you have one 'body' with two twin barrel carbs you would have two 'bodies'.

I wonder has there ever been a car produced where the body has been integrated with the block?
