Hi all,

My mum has a 67 plate Tiguan DSG 1.4TSI (2WD), had a code today and it effectively stopped driving. U0103 "Lost communication with gear shift control module A".
AA came out and it started driving again, however on the way home (AA van followed), it stopped driving again. AA had to tow her home.

It now drives again, with EML and this code. Bit reluctant to clear the code and drive again, as if it stops we're stuck (AA won't come out for a repeat incident). I am hoping it isn't mechantronics unit, but has anyone had a similar issue with DSG and any ideas?

Some ideas I have seen online are a new battery, which it had last year already, and mechatronics, or the module itself.

Only other thing to note is it had a sunroof leak earlier this year, which completely soaked the carpets. This lit the airbag warning light (passenger side), however a thorough drying out etc and clear of the code sorted this issue. Struggling to find information where this module actually is located though...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

id hazard a guess its the gear select unit inside the car, probably under the gear selector is a pcb with some electronics in it. could be a dry joint like my neighbours Disco or a connector dosent like all the water were getting. or it could be the other end where it connects to the box. id get some contact cleaner and have a go at the connectors either end. i doubt clearing the code will cause the issue, if its going to do it it will still do it. one of the reasons i bought a 3 year warranty with my used car as it has a DSG.

you could email these guys they are top draw, and even though i didnt have a problem in the end, still emailed me back with some info that meant what i thought was an issue was just how DSGs behave.

also probably not related but keep on top of the oil changes on these boxes. if it says every 38k miles get it done. if VW says oh weve changed it to 60k as theyve done with some boxes, id ignore that and stick to the old change interval. changing more often means the box will last longer.
