Hiya

I have just bought a westfiled SE and upon giving it a good once over have noticed that one of the filters on the dellortos has a big hole in it.
I am a total newbie when it comes to mechanics as always been spoilt with a modern car and just took it to a garage.
So it was the rear filter which had a hole in it, looking like it was dried out and suffering from heat.
The front filter sticks out of the bonnet so gets a good air flow.
The first few days I've had the car I have give it a good thrashing so could this be the problem or do you think this may have been a long term problem.
Only reason I noticed is that the car is now running a little lumpy which I hope is down to a hole in the filter.
Any advice on a replacement filter would be appreciated as I mentioned I am a total newb.

there could be many issues as to rough running. The filter is probably not one of them, although if its disintergrating, may be well past their best anyway. All bits Dellorto can be had from www.Eurocarb.co.uk These are the carb importers and can supply some nice fresh filters for them.
Rough running on I guess a crossflow or pinto that you have under the bonnet, can be caused by imbalanced carbs, air leaks on carbs to manifold seals, timing, points, compression issues, valve clearances the list goes on.If you have a problem like this, try and give a bit more info here or if you have some sponds, get it set up on a rolling road,if you are not confident with tinkering.

Hiya,

Engine is a crossflow 1700

I live in Tamworth, not to far from Birmingham.
How much to stick on a rolling road approximately?

if you're getting new filters, it's worth getting sponge ones (itg/pipercross,/etc), as they can be cleaned really easily. Try running it with the filters off (not on the road!) and see if it fixes it - if it does, then it's the filters, although I agree that it's unlikely.

My local RR is £120 for a set-up. I don't know if that's cheap or expensive, but they're very thorough.

Boney, you're best bet is to get into the Westfield owners club. For a small sum of £25 you can get all the local guys to you all looking at issues of you're car and would help you along the way to spannerdom.Have a look at www.wscc.co.uk you can ask questions on the forum and there is always someone living in the next street who will be willing to help you.It may save you a bit of cash in the long term and meet some like minded souls for beer tasting too.

Have replaced with a pair of K&N's and it seems to be running a lot better.
Justin will be joining the westfield club as I believe I will be asking lots of questions
Thanks for advice
