Morning,

I'm absolutely stumped with this one,

I'd say I'm 6.5/10 with mechanics I'll do most things up to a clutch change and electrics are my forte.

2014 insignia, Changed passenger seatbelt due to a cut, drove for 2 weeks fine, went out one morning turned ignition on and it came up service esc and service airbag, parking brake light came up too. I have no hill assist nor stability control which makes 200hp no fun in the wet during a zoom.

Tried resetting codes with opcom and straight back up as its refusing to connect to the airbag ecu. Connected to partners airbag ecu fine (same car)

Fitted a new battery as mine was on its last legs anyway, Checked all fuses removed and continuity tested and put back in. Checked all wires under the passenger seat, put old seatbelt back in, made sure airbag ecu plugs were in properly and still no luck. The airbag ecu seems to emmit a high pitch squeal.

I assume by all of this the airbag ecu has for no reason died or could it still be something else?

I've purchased a second hand airbag ecu but having major issues finding someone to clone it just incase I find it is the ecu. Any ideas how I can confirm it's the ecu and where I may actually find someone to clone it? The auction site has listing's but none of them seem to list my airbag ecu. Short of going to vauxhall and getting my pants pulled down.

Can you talk to all other modules in the car ?

Does the airbag ecu have power ? does it have ground ?

Presumably there is a fault light indicated of some sort ?

Sounds like a potential yaw sensor issue to me that's used for all sorts of things.

airbag ecu is squealing away when the ignition is turned on, all other modules communicate fine.

I have airbag light stability control light and park brake light, no hill assist but park brake works fine.

have just taken air airbag ecu out and it smells a little like magic smoke.. oops

Quite clearly that's not a good sign. Best not to refit in case it sets off the airbags and tensioners....that would certainly add a few ££££ to any repairs

Have put it back in and it drives fine still, currently sat at Vauxhall waiting for a quote, they're saying they can't program a second hand airbag ecu as it wasn't deregistered from the old car? So now waiting on a quote for a new one and programming.

Vauxhall might not be able to, but there are people out there who can... and some breakers are clued up enough now to sell 'deregistered' ECUs.

most breakers sell them, but state they have not been divorced from the old car. That's on you

Not many are bothered, and there are only a few people who can resolve this as an afterthought. Pain in the hole the way that all goes.
