Hello all. I bought a focus 2.0 tdci 2008 on eBay. The engine bay is filling up with exhaust fumes - they are really piling in - sometimes its visible - seems to be coming from the lower front of the bay. I suspect the DPF is blocked, but weirdly performance is excellent. Used about half a dozen bottles of Wynne's dpf cleaner but in vain. Took it to my local garage but he didn't want to spend time on it as her thought I was probably staring into an abyss. Doesn't seem to be any chuffing or residue on the injectors.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks guys

Rusted/crack in exhaust. Would make sense deemed on age.

Has to be doesn't it. Probably doesn't take a very big exhaust gas leak to stink up the engine bay. Could be from a number of sources though.

Surprised the mechanic was so useless! Try a different one IMO.

Check the injector seals first although it’s usually the 1.6 that suffers from this.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I'm going to find another garage. My gut in this is that there is likely to be a simple solution.
