Is there a recommended fuel cleaner for diesel BMWs?

It says on fuel cap no additives

But I’ve used fuel cleaners on other cars in the past petrol and diesel and it’s always made good progress ?

I'm not sure how much more clarity you need.

They sold diesel additive at my local BMW dealer but that is probably 6-7 years ago.Pretty sure that was their "own" brand though.

Is this for the 320D you were going to buy?

If so, what's wrong that makes you think you need a fuel additive...and have you got any AUC warranty that may be voided if you use it?

Why not start at the start of the story rather than in the middle.

What issue do you have that makes you think you may need to try to better the best R & D of BMW & Shell/Esso/BP etc?

Recommended by whom? BMW have made their own position clear. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to recommend a fuel cleaner for your car and take responsibility if it damages something. If you're looking for unqualified advice from unknown internet randos then I'm sure you'll find somebody willing to recommend their preferred rabbit's foot. That doesn't mean it'll be safe to use or be any help solving your problem.

What is your problem, by the way?

If you don't have a problem, the best diesel additive is more diesel.

Thanks for all your replies guys

My bmw 320d 17 plate I cherish it
It’s a beast
Well looked after
But it has now hit 60000 miles
No issues at all

But I was asking just for general maintenance
I just wanted to look after it abit better engine wise

So I was just wondering for better maintenance what more could I do

Because it’s a absolute dream of a car with a great spec

And I look after my cars so just wanted some honest advice

Disable start/stop and just change the oil at half the BMW interval and you'll be fine.

It is barely run in.

The best way to look after a diesel engine is as follows.

Never do short journeys, mine does not do journeys under 30 miles, most are over 100 miles.

ONLY use Shell/Esso/BP fuel.

Change both oil & filter every year/6000 miles, only using manufacturer's spec oil.

Don't put stuff in it that the manufacturer doesn't recommend. wink

Do this & they last forever unless there is a random failure.

As well as ‘no additives’ on the cap, you will find in the handbook ‘BMW recommends Shell fuel’. I stick with that. You could occasionally try BP Ultimate diesel, which by all accounts has a higher cetane value (although it only declared at the standard rating). I have used that, but fuel stations that sell it are few and far between and it is expensive. Other than that, just drive it. My 335d is a similar age and mileage, and does a mixture of local miles, and then long trips. All seems fine.

If it has a ZF auto box, spend the money on having the oil and filters in that changed.
