Today's Rain - Clutch Judder
Discussion
Hi,
Just need some pointers about this.
I'm pretty sure I have some major clutch judder.
The car was running fine. I put it on a trailer and drove 140 miles / 3 hours in today's torrential rain.
I drop the car off the trailer and there's massive "clutch judder", I do believe.
I crawl 100 yards with the clutch barely engaged - that was okay but releasing any further - the judder kicks in big time.
I've checked over engine mounts and driveshafts etc and nothing loose.
The car drove fine when I put it on the trailer.
Google says I have condensation on the flywheel / clutch plate and I should just give it some beans?
I'm wanting some reassurance about this because it's a GT40 / 450 BHP! Plus AP Racing Clutch!
I'm thinking - leaf blower (usually for drying the car) and blast some air with the clutch disengaged?
Any real world solutions , greatly appreciated.

I would have expected that to disappear virtually immediately if as you describe, you were slipping the clutch for a few hundred yards. Are you sure it isn't an on-load mis-fire?
Maybe idle the car until it's warm & see if the problem disappears? If it does, you'll know your hunch is right. I get this occasionally on one of mine but only when it's cold & damp.
I know the clutch, rear main seal, flywheel & pressure plate are good because I fitted them, so absent a fault it has to be ingress of something & the overwhelming likelihood is water condensing as the car cools.

Given that it's a track car, I suggest you get it up to temperature and see whether the problem goes away before you try anything more drastic. It may be a worn spigot bearing, broken clutch finger or spring only showing up under certain conditions, but equally it might just be uneven contamination on the clutch face which will clear after a few minutes of driving.

I have never ever heard of such a thing.Google says I have condensation on the flywheel / clutch plate and I should just give it some beans?
So history....has this car had this clutch for years and it's always been perfect ?
Or new clutch, newly fitted ? other ? Some history helps.
