Radweld in a potential purchase...
Discussion
Needing a old estate, mainly for the dog (rescue old English bulldog, 40kg) who's no good at jumping in or out of either car, and when it's too nasty to commute on my motorbike.
I currently have a mk4 golf 1.6 16 valve
I've been offered a Passat estate, 1.9tdi been upgraded a bit, turbo, remapped etc
It had a coolant issue and had 150pd head bolts fitted.
The seller told me they put radweld in as well
It's been run with the radweld in for the time it states and then parked up.
It's pretty cheap but as it's possibly a new head gasket job , how much would that be?
I could possibly get it down to £500 and the MOT history is very good

Sounds like it's been tuned and tweaked and then blown up and being sold for spares/repair.
If you were going to repair it yourself I doubt you'd be asking here, so I assume you'd be getting the work done professionally. I would expect that to cost far more than the car is worth. That's why the seller is trying to get rid, rather than fix it themselves.
If you buy it planning to use it, you'd need to do it with the mindset that the car is disposable and might become undriveable at any time. That doesn't sound like what you're looking for, but that's your call.

For the sake of clarity in case anyone else searches that would cost in the order of £1200 to £1500 in a garage to do, but could easily be more if there is actual engine damage, and then there would be the cost of returning it to standard.
Not worth it.
Thanks for that, it was a £600 Passat, so deffo never going to be worth 2kNot worth it.

They only work if you can do it yourself.
