Hi All,

I have an Astra (2012 Reg - SRI -1.6 Petrol) which started misfiring recently. The whole situation started a month after a battery change. The car was working fine and then it suddenly started misfiring, and stalled and the engine light came up. I took it to the local garage and they said that it had to do with the coil pack and they replaced the coil pack and plugs. It was fine for a month, and the issue has started again. The car seems to start misfiring a bit, then the engine light comes up but the car then works fine. The engine light stays there for a day or two and then disappears. The car generally seems fine but has now started to feel sluggish whenever the engine light is there.

I took it to the local garage again and they said there could be several things wrong and they will have to do further checks.

Would appreciate some advise on this before i take it back to the garage.

Thanks

ECU needs to be scanned for fault codes, that will steer towards the fault, I would imagine your garage would do this as a first task.
Never discount the possibility that the new coil pack has failed, if it has then it should be under warranty, ask them what make it was as there's some awfully nasty cheap parts out there.

Will the fault code still be there if the engine light keeps going off after a bit?

I will check about the coil pack as I still have the invoice.

Thanks

depends, some will store historic faults, but always best to get it checked when the fault/light is present.

And where possible, always try and use genuine OEM parts, some aftermarket stuff is just pure crap

if the garage diagnosed, supplied and fitted the coils, then there should be some degree of warranty on them. If of course they say it is the same fault....which they may not to avoid that warranty.

Or it may never have been the coils in the first place.

Thanks. Will keep and eye on it and take it when it shows fault again.

One thing I have noticed is that the fault seems to occur when it's really cold or rainy weather. Might just be me over analysing it.

There is a few threads on this subject as it is a common problem with Vauxhalls, one of the common reasons for it happening is the coil pack connector, you can pick them up for less than £10 and is a DIYable job, I would try this route before paying a garage to try and solve

Update...

Got the car back from the garage today. They said that there were 2 errors related to sensor and wiring. They have fixed the wiring, changed lambda sensor on bank one and did a remapping.

Total cost ( Inc part and labour) of £200.

So let's see how it behaves now.
