I'm considering a change of plan from a 1UZ V8 to a diesel swap for my Ford Ranger

I know little about diesels - the obvious options would seem to be BMW 3.0 or Merc 3.0 as both are 200bhp RWD

Does anyone have any other suggestions or forums / FB groups

I'm leaning toward the Merc as the V6 is obviously shorter and available cheaply in Jeep Cherokees but I'd then have to find a manual box

OM605 (5 cylinder Merc diesel) takes a lot of abuse / turboing, and you get that 5 cylinder sound.

The OM606 naturally is the bigger 6 pot cousin and takes even more abuse, but the 5 is shorter...

BMW and Auto would be fairly sensible ?

These guys do conversions

The Merc one sounds like a sensible option too

Thanks for the link - their wiring would make a BMW swap a lot easier

Struggling to find the equivalent for the Merc

The Merc would normally be converted to a mechanical pump 606 at least

I'm aware that's the reason the old diesels were popular - same with carb conversions on petrols but most of the popular swaps have electronic conversions these days

So I'm either looking in the wrong place or I've picked the wrong engine to convert (with the Merc)

https://mwmachines.co.uk/ are another option for the BMW swap. No personal experience but every so often end up going down a rabbit hole of doing the swap!
