Hi,

I've taken the plunge and ordered 6 new injectors from mlperformance - they are index 11 for a 330i N53.

I'm getting mixed information from different garages, some saying it will be two hours labour vs 4.5hrs.

1. The two hour garage just swaps them out keeping the existing washer/clip.
2. Where as the 4.5hr garage say they cut the seats of the injectors off installing new washers/buffers too.

Both will be coded correctly but what's the correct way of doing it? If I'm spending 2k on new injectors I want them done properly even it costs a few hours more labour.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Were they leaking at all? Had this done on my van and had to have the seats recut and new copper washers fitted.

I know little about spannering but it makes sense to me to get them reseated if you're fitting new to ensure no issues going forward.

Yes they were leaking into the cylinders causing excess fuel being burned resulting in misfires when cold.

Also a cold start leak test was carried out and it failed miserably.

Thanks for sharing your experience 🙂

Is there a reason the car even needs 6 new injectors ? seems pretty extreme.

Seat cutting tools exist for a reason.....and until your injectors are removed, everything inspected, Nobody can say whether they really do need done or not.

If you're spending all that money on new parts, then budget for doing the full and complete job too.

Unfortunately it is the injectors, ECU has been ruled out and the car has been misfiring for a while now.

I got a second opinion and it had a cold start leak test at a BMW Indy (it's a known problem with this model).

I will likely take the advice on here and get them seated properly.

Never heard of seats being cut on an n53. Also those saying it's unusual to replace all six injectors clearly aren't familiar with the n53 lol.

The injectors are supposed to have new clips. Not sure what washer you are referring to but the new injector will have a seal and that is kept compressed by a cap which is removed just before inserting the injector into the head. The seal then expands to form a gas tight joint. I'd be asking how many n53 either garage have actually tended to.

Not tempted to have a crack yourself? It's quite straightforward.

I'm fairly confident the garage have done quite a few but will check their process. I've heard for diesel injectors they have to seat them but not for the petrol ones (thankfully).

I'd rather not have a go and mess it up, don't you need to code them in as well? I'll have a look on YouTube for a installation video

Cheers

yes, they need coding.
