Jeep Patriot 2.2L OM651 - P2263 Limp Mode issue
Discussion
Jeep Patriot 2.2L diesel OM651 Merc engine 163bhp mapped to 200bhp - 138,000 mileage.
Hi there - a few months ago the engine management warning light came on in my car while away in Wales. It was amber and stationary and has largely remained on for the last few months (only disappearing on long drives.) No symptoms initially.....until, I was driving home down the M3 a few weeks after this and I got limp mode for the first time ever (red flashing lightning bolt symbol) so pulled over and got the RAC to have a look etc. Stopped and started the car and followed him and it was fine. Didn’t do it for another month. Then about another month after that. Then suddenly it went into limp mode about twice in one morning two weeks ago and I then realised I had a crack in the rear axle and needed a new subframe, so the Jeep is off the road at present!
Now, I haven’t driven her for two weeks but started her up yesterday....no problem. Battery nearly done 140k in this car, phenomenal. But limp mode came on 1 minute later. Drove her round the block twice at work, gave the engine a rev and let her run for half hour, then switched off.
There are a couple error codes on my OBD reader relating to O2 sensors, but the RAC guy didn’t think that was causing limp mode. He said it was error code P2263 more likely which relates to the Turbocharger. Basically I can’t go over 3,000 revs so have lost complete acceleration power.
Do I need a new Turbo or are there other things I can check first before doing this? I already have to replace the rear subframe and doing the turbo too is going to set me back a lot of money!
Thanks

Also may be worth mentioning that yesterday I saw error code for the first time P2459 which is to do with the diesel particulate filter. I don’t know if this came on just because I was clearing my car out while leaving it running for half hour....? Or could this be the cause of P2263. I really don’t know!
The OM651 in the mercs is known for splits on the inter cooler pipes, this will throw fault codes, limp mode and the vehicle to fail to regenerate the dpf which then blocks.
Don’t know if the pipes are the same, but easy to tell on a Merc as the pipe will have oil deposits on it around the split - check all the inter cooler pipe work.

I know where some components are under the bonnet, but I’m not super savvy here, so when you say intercooler pipe , is that the same as turbo pipe? Because interestingly enough, I just remembered, on the invoice I got from a local garage who did my rear brakes and a caliper recently, they also said in advisories “possible turbo pipe split requires further investigation.” So I suppose this could definitely be to blame for the ETC light and limp mode issue. Of course I don’t know if that would be to blame for the check engine light which came on before limp mode ever started and the error codes my OBD scanner got for that were both to do with O2 sensors......
