A quick question

Can the thickness of a head gasket have an effect on the amount of timing (advance) you can use?

In my case moving from 1.5mm to 0.7mm along with a light skim of the head.

Assume that the timing was set to max advance relative to power gain with the thicker head gasket.

ok.

So if I put a thicker gasket back in, it should be ok to run the engine up to check it all works, before heading it off to the rolling road?

With a drop like that, I'd be more concerned about potential mechanical contact.

Ask the person who built the engine.
