Have had a warning light for the airbag randomly come on (not been in an accident). Took it to my local garage who had a look and was pretty sure it was something called a squib but he was reluctant to investigate further as he said it was fused to the airbag. Recommended a specialist who upon further diagnostics have said it is the control module that needs replacing. They have said the price from honda is £550. I have a 2007 Honda jazz se. Just had a thought is it possible to get a 2nd hand part from somewhere? I think the garage will only want to give me a genuine part but I'm not sure how I would go about finding the right part. Had a look on a website called breaker yard. Got two quotes already. Both say used 1 month guarantee. One proce is £250 and the other quote is £20! Am I asking for trouble getting a second hand part?

I don't know how far back it goes, but have you checked if it's affected by the airbag recall?

Even if it is, it may have already been done, but worth a look: https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/recalls-and-up...

Thanks yeah just trying to see if the garage still have the serial number or a photo. If not I might see if I can access it myself doesn't seem to difficult. If I buy one from ebay how do I know that it is working could it not be broken like mine?

You don't know for sure it will work and nor do you know for sure that your specialist has diagnosed the right thing. For those reasons, the cheap options look attractive.

Managed to find the model number myself. It was covered in dust so there is no way that the garage looked at it to get the model number which makes me think how do I know they will order the right part or even diagnosed it right? Could they have just known the model number from experience or maybe vin number?

Yeah, they'll have access to parts databases which tie your VIN against specific part numbers that might otherwise evolve through the years as changes are made mid-production.

Found one that is an exact match and the guy selling it says it's tested and has a warranty. Is it just a case of plug and play will the airbags be functional and does it need coding or anything?

I have someone who will come to me to fit it and charges £125. It may need reprogramming according to the person I brought it from and he can do that. Is it worth asking my local garage if they can install it as uts going there for an mot. Worried he may not have what's needed to reprogram it? Don't know what that involves
