What seemed to be an annoying belt squeel turned out to be the idler pully slightly and espescially the water pump so the mechanic says. I did not think water pumps squeeled like a loose belt does. I had him do the work and it still squeeled. He told me that the belt got coolant on it from the flush. i told him to change the belt. I have not got it back yet. It better not sqyeel. Did I get taken?

It depends, alot, on what's wrong with it!

If the bearing in the water pump is clapped, then the bearing itself, may squeal. If the bearing is really dragging badly then it may cause even a brand new belt to squeal too.

Edited to add;
I guess you got taken if you paid him to replace the water pump and he didn't.

On the other hand if you paid him to replace the belt, to cure the noise, and the noise wasn't coming from the belt, then you probably didn't.

Yes as Dilbert said very common for the water pump bearings to squeal when they are damaged/on thier way out.

If the car has allot of miles on it and the pulleys are worn smooth even new belts can squeal, I've got that problem with my truck and need to rough up the pulleys with sand paper to try to cure it.

If worst comes to worst I'll have to replace the pulleys. Good Luck.
