Hi All, Some years ago, I rebuilt a Stag V8 engine to keep as a spare, and as the inevitable happened, I dropped it into my car recently. The engine runs fine, but I've got a huge oil pressure >100psi. The oil pump was replaced when I rebuilt the engine, but I'm wondering if the pressure relief valve is stuck closed. Has anyone else ever had such a problem? I'll try and remove the pressure relief valve in the morning, but reckon I'm going to have to remove the pump to investigate further. Any ideas?

How do you know it is 100 psi?

I once had the pressure relief valve stick on a V8 Land Rover and the excess oil pressure split the oil filter open.

Dear Fellow Petrolheads, thank you for your responses. The oil pressure gauge goes off the scale at 100 psi, in fact I am surprised it didn’t burst!!, and oil is leaking from somewhere around the transfer housing cover/filter/pump. The link on the Robsport site makes for worrying reading. I will get in contact with the supplier of the oil pump and see what they have to say.

This site (Pistonheads) is by far the best site to find answers from genuine enthusiasts for all kinds of cars. Thanks again for your help

Following a complete new set of bearings in my old Riley -
it blew the top off a canister type oil filter - 10 pints of Duckhams all over a pub car park.
Having got it home I found I had to let it tick over for a few minutes to warm up before pulling away & within 1000miles it was all OK.
