Hi everyone,

Recently my 62 plate vauxhall astra has been having some issues.

When I brake for a junction (quite hard) the engine will just cut out. If I slow down very gradually I can normally get away with it. However, it doesn't feel like a stall as I have my foot on the clutch and there is no juddering or anything, the revs just drop from idle to zero and it cuts out.

Also, when starting it back up it occasionally will the struggle to restart. I am guessing they are related but not sure.

Any ideas would be great 👍🏻

Try starting with looking for an induction air leak.

What happens if you are sat still, engine idling, and you pump the brakes?

Thinking of air leaks in the brake system.

The car seems fine when idle, foot on break and rolling and then breaking again.

I've only noticed it when I've braked at a junction fairly hard and the revs drop as normal but then suddenly cuts out and I have to restart it.

Cool, you have confirmed it is not the brakes (not the breaks) - next, idle control valve - or something with fuel.
2 questions - does it still do it with a full tank?
- if you are cruising, pop into neutral, let the engine come to an idle, then stop, does it cut out?

I've not noticed a difference between when it is a full tank or nearly empty!

It seems to only happen when I'm about to stop/when I stop and I'm in neutral with the clutch down (doesn't happen every time).

The check engine light came on and took it to a garage with no luck and their reader came back with no messages/codes.

If the CEL came on I can 100% guarantee that there will have been codes stored, or it wouldn't have been on.

Top tip, don't go back there for any fault finding again.

I'm sorry to gate crash this post, but I'm new and was wondering how I can start a new post? One again sorry to intrude on this post.
