Hi all,
I am looking at building a mid engine project, I am still unsure regarding what engine to use, however the 1.8 Audi units look appealing.
I have a few questions for you guys that are in the know.
Will the 1.8 Audi petrol turbo engine mate up with an Audi transaxle ie 01E unit.
Can I run the engine on a standalone ECU?
Many thanks 👍

I'm sure they did make one....try and find an older Passat or Audi A4 with a 1.8turbo fwd.

And of course pretty much any engine can be run with a standalone ecu

I think this age is still a longitudinal engine. Engine and drivetrain sorted

Thank you, was also wondering if the highee bhp engine such as the TT bam engine would fit the 01e gearbox, does anybody know if this would work?

Yep. Every A4 ever built has a longitudinal engine. The Passat kept flip-flopping for a while before settling on transverse though.

I'd imagine most of the 4cyl and even VR6 likely use the same bellhousing pattern.

But when you can get a complete engine and box from the same running vehicle, or just buy a donor vehicle....that would be by far the easiest option instead of buying parts
