1.0 TSI vs 1.2 TSI

The briskoda thread sums it up nicely but does get a bit technical.
Essentially the 1.2 TSI is 4 cylinder turbo, cambelt driven and discontinued. 1.0 TSI is a slightly newer 3 cylinder turbo. Both produce about the same power and to the average customer you couldn't tell the difference between them. I'd guess the 1.2 may have more scope for power but not without major engine work/turbo changes. They're economy engines built to a price.
They're nice enough for pootling about, deliver reasonable economy in their more aero models and feel nippy about town without actually being that quick.
I have the 1.2 in a Yeti and it's fine but could use another 20-30bhp. Confusingly there was an earlier unrelated 1.2 turbo that was chain driven. Avoid that engine if you can (usually pre-2014/5 cars)
After two years of ownership and about 20k miles, the only issue has been a sticking turbo actuator which was fixed under warranty by the dealer. A common fault on the small vag turbo engines that have stood around a while. I get 42+mpg on a longer run and high 30's around town which isn't diesel bothering economy but not bad for a brick shaped car. Same engine in a smaller car/estate will net you 40+ in town and perhaps 50 on runs.
