Stiff/sticky gear shift
Discussion
Hi, I've got a late 2013 citroen c4 picasso hdi vtr+.
My gear selector has become intermittently stiff and squeeky when mostly going into 1st, 3rd and 5th
I removed the center box/storage and that seemed to help it go loose again, but only for it to return.
It comes and goes and the only thing that seems to bring back the looseness is heavy breaking!
I think its something to do with the linkage at the gear selector (as that's where the squeek is coming from) and not gearbox it's self.
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Matt

The change under heavy braking might point to the drivetrain shifting under load; you might have a poorly engine/transmission mount.
^^^ Wot 'e said.On top of that there could be a gear shift cable adjuster to set up on completion.
These are most commonly a case of something like:
Put gear selector in 3rd.
Get access to gearbox end of cables.
One has a cable length adjuster to set in position to a set position.
Google your car to see if it does.

This is what my brother has said, he is gonna look at it tomorrow. I'm trying to locate the mounts myself to check but not much luck!
Put the car in an empty car park, with a helper.Point it in a safe direction, away from walls, bollards and other cars.
Lift the bonnet, start the car. Have your helper stand to the side of the car where they can see the engine but aren’t in the path of the car.
Put the handbrake on, hard, then slip the clutch in 1st and watch to see if the engine moves in an odd way.
Half an inch of movement or so should be ok, much more than that could well be indicative of a knackered mount; the direction the engine moves will help you located the knackered mount/s.
