My 1999 a4 1.9afn engine died
The oil polymerised (?) So I flushed it
Then the turbo went, so I replaced it , flushing oil, cleaned out what I could, all external lines removed and using heat and chemicals cleaned out, no oil feed to the turbo still
I allowed it to tick over for 20mins(flushing oil neat in the sump) the oil filter and sump didn't get warm, then it stopped, it would start but not for long.

Backstory done....so before I scrap it and as I like it is there a cheap plug and play engine upgrade? PD something?probably going to be more expensive than replacing the car

I would be a garage job, which won't help with the expenses as I'm just starting a run of late shifts(fini at 01:57 tonight and back on at 14:01 Saturday)

Over to you, I'm guessing it's scrap and start again

TBH I'd just bung it on ebay for 99p no reserve as a non-runner, that'll be in hot demand for export to eastern Europe where they're desirable, have loads of spare PD engines and cheaper labour rates. You'll likely get a good clip more than scrap value too.

I never thought of that, I can always end it earlier if it's not doing much.
Thanks

No clue what you even mean by that.

And if you're paying some random garage to do the work.....just the exact engine you need, identical to the old. Anything else stands more chance of being a complete nightmare.

If you like the car I too would just get the exact same engine and get it fitted by someone competent. It is not a difficult job, just a heavy lifting one needing engine cranes etc and no need to overcomplicate with a different engine.

Or do the ebay thing and start again with another car. Good cars though the Audi A4s B5 B6 B7 all great.

The local place has a basic quote of £1200, engines are £600 and that would include a new clutch and fingers crossed that nothing else was wrong, not worth it for me
Off to look at a 2.2 civic
