Hi everyone. First time poster but long term DIY mechanic. I've an odd problem that I'm uncertain about on my Peugeot 3008 and am hoping someone can shed a bit of light. I have a noise on slight acceleration which sounds very much like a worn and scuffing brake pads/disc, these are all in good condition as are the relevant steering and suspension joints. I was thinking wheel bearing but with no obvious noise or play I'm less inclined to change it for the sake of it. The only sound I can hear when jacked up is the odd click when the wheel is spun backwards, is this more likely outer cv joint or my earlier thoughts of wheel bearing more likely.
Thanks in advance for any help.

When it next comes up try keeping your foot on the throttle & braking very slightly, if it goes it is the brake pad/disc interface, so that could help rule stuff out.

Unfortunately, these type of things are almost impossible to diagnose over the internet.

It could be a wheel bearing starting to go bad. You don't always get play in them if they are just starting to go, but do get some noise. or it could be a failing bush, ball joint, drop link, etc etc.

Best of luck tracking it down.

Thanks guys, yes it's a pain to track down. It's been doing it for some time without getting worse and no issues with the MOT!!.The throttle and brake technique is a pain as it automatically cuts the throttle when I brake. Tbh the brake does seem the likely culprit and upon further inspection the last owner had fitted cheap pads which are perhaps of poor quality?

It will do, but at least if the noise stops you know it is disc/pad related.

Have you checked all the brake pads? Asking because my Wife had a Renault Scenic and that had a knack of wearing the front inner pad to the metal whilst the outer still looked almost new, caught me out at first.

I have mate, stripped the brakes right back looking for an issue. I'm at something of a loss with it but according to the service history the discs have done around 50k so worth a change even though they don't look bad.

A quick reply to this. I did the brake/acceleration and this time it's gone quieter. Upon inspection there's a slightly contaminated pad that must be grabbing on occasionally causing my issue. Needless to say I'll be doing discs and pads very soon.

Would gently accelerating cause the engine to move slightly, and then something gets pushed to just rub on a driveshaft / alternator pully / AC pully / etc?

That's a great thought and I'll certainly investigate before I do any work
