I'm interested in fiddling about with engines and bits, but I currently know very little. Most of what I learn is through picking up things on random threads.

So, anybody recommend a decent book that I can have a gander at? I've learnt degree level maths, phys and chem, so I'm not too scared of something too technical either.

The much derided Car Mechanics magazine has lots of information and some very good books.
