Quickie,

Hydraulic tappets get tappy with higher mileage and Wynn's is great stuff to clean them out with. I'm a big fan.

BUT

I notice that they seem to sell two similar products: 76858 and 76864. The 76858 is slightly more expensive. Links as follows:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wynns-76864-Hydraulic-Lif...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wynns-76858-Hydraulic-Lif...

In short: what's the difference between them? And does anyone else do anything that's as good as the (more expensive) 76858 product?

Thanks!

MSDS for each:

The W76858 appears to be simply a more recent version of the same thing. Whether either of them actually "works" is a totally different thing.

Thanks Craigy. That's what I suspected - that they are much the same.

I'll say that they do work (or the one that I have used, for sure). Rattly valve lifters in old Porsches are significantly much quieter after a dose of the stuff.

Re: efficacy, fair enough.

While looking at this I found that they actually make other similarly named stuff you might want to look into?

I'm not so sure. Noisy tappets is a sign of a worn camshaft. That comes from not changing the oil regularly.

It can be a sign of that, yes. But in engines with hydraulic tappets it can also occur when you get a build up of contaminants in the tappets themselves and they don't pump up as they should with the oil pressure. Using an oil additive to clean the engine before changing the oil can solve the problem.
