Hi. I was wondering if anyone can help please? I have 2019 1.2 Peugeot 3008. The other day the engine management light came on and when I was driving home it went in to limp mode. I took it to my local garage and the mechanic said it was showing a fault code of P1337 Misfire on Cylinder 1. The mechanic changed cylinder 1 and also changed the spark plugs but the fault is still there. Does anyone have any other ideas? My mechanic says he’s stumped.

Somehow, I don't think he changed cylinder number 1.

Find out what he actually did in the first instance & what he tested, if he isn't just a parts cannon chimp, that is.

He definitely changed the cylinder. The reason I know for sure, is I bought the new cylinder myself and my mate changed it for me at first but my mate didn't know the cylinders were the other way around on a Peugeot so put it in the wrong place. When I took the car to the garage and told the mechanic we had tried swapping the cylinder, he explained they are the other way round on a Peugeot so he would try swapping it around to the correct place. This didn't work so he tried changing the spark plugs but that didn't work either. This all happened yesterday so the car is still with the mechanic and he said he would have another look today. I just thought I would ask on here to try and find out some information for myself.

So, you completely dismantled the engine down to it's component parts after removing the full engine from the car, and then the garage mechanic did the same to put it right?

Post a picture of the "cylinder" that has been changed .confused

I suspect you mean coil .

And while you are doing that here are a few suggestions.

Get a compression test done.

Check the injector for that cylinder.

Check the injector wiring if the injector isn't working.

Check for spark at the spark plug.

Check the wiring if there is no spark.

These should be the starting point for any competent mechanic rather than just fitting new parts in the hope that he accidentally fixes the problem.

Sorry guys. I have no clue when it comes to cars. I meant the coil pack was changed, not the cylinder. I just picked the car up there and he said he tried swapping all the coil packs about and every time the error came up saying Coil 1 misfiring. He said he checked all the spark plugs and they were fine too. I have booked it in with a Peugeot specialist next week. The main Peugeot dealer can’t book me in until December 13th. Thanks for all your replies.

You don't need a Peugeot specialist, just a garage that performs a diagnosis rather than is only capable of parts swapping, like I said above.

Its amazing the amount of people when they see misfire fault codes presume its just spark related and dismiss cylinder woes/valves low compression or inj issue or an air leak etc

Cheers for all the replies. I wish I knew more about cars. It’s booked in with the Peugeot specialist next week and their garage gets really good reviews so hopefully he can sort it. My biggest worry is that the engine is totally done. I have been searching online and there’s a lot of posts about this fault where it ends up that the full engine needs replaced.

You will be OK, it is only 1 cylinder, which is a real quick job. wink

I was joking about your original post saying you changed one cylinder & then the mechanic did it again.

I have no idea what the outcome will be without knowing the results of the tests I said need doing.

Hence the wink

What's more amazing....as these people are working at cars, in garages and charging for it !!

The industry is horrific. Good garages get a bad rap because of them, and bad garages seem to make a fortune ripping people off whilst being clueless.

Just find a good reputable competent mechanic....that is the hardest aspect of any repair. And I would not rank main dealers in that category.

Sorry I forgot to come back with an outcome. The Peugeot specialist said it was a fault with an injector and changed it for me. I have had it back a few days now and it’s all working good.

Was about to say injector, it's the logical next step if you've swapped plugs and coils about and the misfire remains on the same cylinder.

In what way could that possibly help?
Sounds like it's fixed now anyway
